Some Things Have to Be Done Too Much

Pope John Paul II, spiritual patriarch before the one now in office, traveled a great deal to visit Catholics in many countries. Years before an assassin attempted to take his life, and he still suffered the effects of the bullet. He was also gradually developing Parkinson's Disease, and he increasingly exhibited tremors and fatigue.

His aides often said,

"Holy Father, you do too much."

And John Paul would smile, and ignore them. One day when he was on a trip to Mexico City, one of his aides said,

"Holy Father, you do too much."

The wise old fella looked a little exasperated since he had heard this phrase so often. With a twinkle in his eye, he responded...

"Some things have to be done... too much."

If I am kind or good or influential in your life, it’s because

... "some things have to be done too much."
