THE FALLING WALLENDA'S. Pt. 2

Nik Wallenda, the leader of the troop, and great grandson of the ill-fated patriarch, Karl Wallenda, has walked across the Grand Canyon and Niagara Falls. In the past few days the modern day Wallenda tightrope troop sustained the latest in a long string of tragedies. Nik was a participant in a recent 8 person tightrope pyramid when things began to unravel around them. 5 of the 8 participants fell 30-40 feet to the ground, and all sustained various degrees of bodily injury; including broken bones and internal injuries.

While the current patriarch of the family credited the superb conditioning of troop members with their comparatively light injuries, doctors assured Wallenda this was a fall from which people just do not survive. Wallenda informed the interviewer that “the show must go on,” and while the 8 Man Pyramid was for the moment suspended, other tightrope and circus acts would remain on the nightly menu.

Nik, a born again Christian, has been outspoken about his religious faith, and as he walked across the Grand Canyon 152 momentary prayers and praises were recorded on his body mic. Phrases such as, “Thank You, Jesus,” “Praise God” and “Hallelujah” were the order of that day.

As the interview continued the modern day patriarch said,

"We take risks; that's what we do. Praise God that we're all still alive."

As a brother in the Lord it has always seemed paradoxical to me to see fellow believers involved in sports which seem far too close to breaking one of The 10 Commandments; namely, “Thou Shalt Not Tempt the Lord, your God.” And if that were not bad enough, after an accident, or near miss to offer praise to the One who cut the commandment in stone in the first place.

As the interview reached its conclusion, Wallenda made the statement,

“I live by three words: ‘Never Give Up.’”

At least from my perspective it is time for my brother in the Lord to ‘give it up,’ and find some other occupation by which he may generate income; lest he, and his courageous band of relatives tempt God’s patience one too many times, and needlessly sacrifice their lives for a profession which has maimed and killed far too many of their forebears.
