*In the aftermath of the horrendous school shooting in south Florida, and numerous others which preceded it. A short editorial.
My local university which I attended and in which I later served as a faculty member is arming selected professors now; in conjunction with the training our county Sheriff's office is providing to them.
I think the same thing needs to be done in the primary and secondary schools of our nation since one resource officer isn't nearly enough in a given school. The "get behind your desk" mentality is nothing more than the "Duck & Cover" of the Cold War era.
Duck & Cover wouldn't have saved students from a nuclear bomb, and it sure as heck isn't going to save them from an assault rifle.
If we wait for our congress to do anything we'll be waiting a long time. Any substantial change in regard to the protection of our children will have to begin at the grass roots local level.
