WHEN MAN WALKED ON THE MOON (When God Walked On The Earth)

On July 20th, 1969 the spindly legs of Apollo 11 set down on the moon, and the feet of Astronaut, Neil Armstrong, dropped down upon the lunar surface.

I was watching the live black & white video feed when it occurred, and along with millions of my fellow earthlings heard the spacecraft commander’s voice, as he uttered the first words ever spoken by one of God’s created beings on an alien world.

“That’s one small step for man. One giant leap for mankind.”

It has been said that never in the annals of modern (or ancient) history has a more notable achievement been accomplished.

However…

(Have you ever considered the import of the foregoing word? For when that word crops up in an article or story the implication is that the entire dynamic is about to change).

However, while man’s landing on the moon was one of the most amazing achievements in history, it can be properly said that, at best, Neil Armstrong’s amazing experience ranks second in significance to another.

For you see,

(And He did).

The Old Testament prophet Isaiah uttered the words several millenia before they came to pass.

“Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son and shall call His name, ‘Emmanuel.’” (Isaiah 7:14)

Pt. 2

And not in the prophet’s lifetime, but millenia before the lifetimes of those of us who currently dwell on the earth,

…He came.

But unlike the accomplishment of our brave astronauts, He who came came without the benefit of some artificial means of transportation. But rather, He took on flesh and dwelt among us, and He continues to inhabit the same body which His disciples knew and recognized so long ago.

We return to our earlier premise.

THE GREATEST MOMENT IN HISTORY WAS NOT WHEN A MAN WALKED ON THE MOON, BUT RATHER, …WHEN GOD (THE CREATOR OF THE HEAVENS AND ALL THAT EXISTS) WALKED ON THE EARTH.

But about His Son, Jesus He says,

“Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever;
    a scepter of justice will be the scepter of Your kingdom.
You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness;
    therefore God, your God, has set You above your companions
    by anointing You with the oil of joy.”

10 He also says, (about the God-man)

“In the beginning, Lord, You laid the foundations of the earth,
    and the heavens are the work of Your hands.
11 They will perish, but You remain;
    they will all wear out like a garment.
12 You will roll them up like a robe;
    like a garment they will be changed.
But You remain the same,
    and Your years will never end.” (Hebrews 1:8-12)
