I think the
stories of ‘Roxie’ the cocker spaniel, and ‘Nettie’ the humpback whale speak
volumes, and I believe there is a great deal of spiritual truth woven into them.
Colonel E.,
who spent much of his time at the animal shelter ‘dispatching’ multitudes of
old, ailing and unwanted animals. Whereas, the executioner of all those
unfortunate creatures became a saviour to one.
Jim J., who
might have easily succumbed to a sense of malaise, and ineptitude, and allowed
the poor humpback to die beneath the waves rose to the challenge. And as a
result, that magnificent creature was salvaged from almost certain death.
As I have
previously implied, these somewhat similar stories possess a spiritual
implication, that of
…a just, but
holy God who created the world and stars and everything therein, and who as the
result of His inability to overlook or excuse sin, and the abject betrayal of
His creation,
…set in motion a plan to save the lost from the miseries of Hell,
and redeem them unto Himself.
Scripture assures
us that
“All have sinned
and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)
(and)
“The wages
of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus
Christ, our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)
But God had
a plan
For we read
in the Book of John, Chapter 3,
“For God so
loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in
Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (3:16)
The
altogether Righteous Judge of the universe who having been disappointed with
the choices and outcome of mankind, and while deeming them guilty of
destruction
…sent Jesus.
The God-man
who paid the penalty of our sins on the cruel cross, and in so doing saved us
from eternal death, rent the proverbial curtain in two, and allowed the
sin-scarred creation to approach the very throne of the heavenly Father, and
put us back in favor with Him.

Executioner and the Savior
