Back in the ‘80’s my wife and I traveled from central Florida to
Jacksonville once a month to visit with my children. We often stayed at
the Ramada Inn on the interstate and, of course, took advantage of the
pool and other amenities.
One Saturday evening as we were swimming,
an elderly man and woman were sitting at a poolside table keeping an
eye on a five or six year old boy as he played in the shallow end.
However, it seems ‘Johnny’ wasn’t content to limit his activity to the
shallow end since now and then he would dog paddle to the deeper side of
the pool. Of course, granddad would caution him, and shoo him back into
shallower water. Until… the little tyke realized he was in bad straits
and began to flounder. Fully clothed the older man jumped in, scooped
the young fella up, and having swam to where grandma waited, he shoved
Johnny into her arms, and said,
“Here! He’s drowned!”
Well, he wasn’t. But the old boy’s exclamation was an indicator of his utter frustration with the lad.
No doubt, granddad and grandma have long since gone on to their reward,
and the little boy has metamorphosed into a middle-aged man. And yet,
my wife and I maintain a clear recollection of that day, and often laugh
about it.
In the aftermath of last night’s second presidential
debate between Hillary and the Donald, that memory from long ago comes
flooding back.
But allow me to explain.
Unless my readers have
been on a trip to Mars, or marooned on a desert island, you are all too
aware of the latest (2005) video tape which depicts Mr. Trump in a
conversation with a reporter, and uttering the vilest verbiage about
what he enjoys doing to any and all women with whom he comes into
contact.
And though DT enjoyed a very good night in the debate, and ‘stepped all over’ HC, it may be too little, too late.
To be sure, I have little or no use for either of the two major
presidential candidates, and (for various reasons) cannot award my vote
to either of them.
But…
As with Obama, so goes it with Hillary
Clinton. Among all the cable television networks, CNN stands alone as
the most liberal, most biased network in existence, and one reason our
‘illustrious’ president is, well, our illustrious president.
For whatever reason, however, I still tune in to my local channel 29 (CNN) and watch it as long as I can tolerate it.
The Cable ‘News’ Network has ‘dumped on Trump’ on a consistent basis
while minimizing the failings and weaknesses of his opponent. CNN
reported today that a survey among eligible voters indicates that
Hillary won the debate by fifteen points.
I’m sorry. I saw it. He did an extraordinary job and squashed HC.
Nevertheless, to be realistic, Trump will not win. (And Hillary will).
In spite of The Donald’s almost inevitable upcoming loss, CNN continues
to dump on Trump. He’s gotten himself out in deep water, and he’s going
under. However, rather than simply exclaim,
“Here. He’s drowned,”
the representatives of that network are figuratively engaged in a game
of ‘watermelon’ and will almost assuredly continue to body splash him
until he lies ‘dead’ at the bottom of the proverbial pool.
