PASTORS & EVANGELISTS. Pt. 9 of 14

Ernest Angley

At the time, my former wife and I lived in North Alabama, and were parents of three children. It so happened my oldest child, Steve, was afflicted with what is commonly known as crossed eyes. And of course, we were both concerned and hopeful that something might be done to correct this malady.

And while I cannot, at this juncture, recall what had been attempted in terms of medical intervention, my remembrance of our spiritual intervention is crystal clear.

Ernest Angley, a nationally known crusade evangelist of that time, had scheduled an evangelistic meeting somewhere in North Alabama. And we were determined to not only attend, but to join the prayer line when the invitation went out; (which we, subsequently, did).

As I remember, there was nothing especially loud, flashy or remarkable about the experience. Rev. Angley simply inquired about the nature of the medical issue, anointed my five year old son with oil, laid his right hand on his forehead, and uttered the words, “Be healed in the name of Jesus!” And the whole thing was over as quickly as it began.

However,

And this is where it is all a bit nebulous, my dear little boy received his healing in short order; short being a relative term. Whether immediately after the prayer was uttered by the traveling evangelist, or whether sometime the next day, or the next week is a moot point. The bottom line is that shortly thereafter, the two little crossed eyes took their rightful place in the sockets which contained them. And, of course, we were absolutely thrilled and gratified beyond belief.

While I think we cannot presume on God to do whatever we wish, whenever we choose, I will never doubt that He is still in the healing business.
