THE DUCKS OF DUCKVILLE

There was once a hamlet in some obscure country populated by ducks. Ducks of every kind. Green ones. Yellow ones. Brown ones. Multi-colored ones.

And everywhere they went, they waddled.

They waddled here. They waddled there. They waddled everywhere.

And on Sunday they waddled to the duck church and listened to the duck preacher as he preached his duck sermon behind the duck pulpit.

And this particular Sunday was very much like the rest; at least ‘til the service got well under way. For you see, after the singing concluded the duck preacher stepped behind his duck pulpit and began to preach his duck sermon.

“Fellow ducks. I have a rather novel bit of information to share with you today. You were never meant to waddle. You were meant to fly. Over hill, over dale, over lakes, over mountains. You were never meant to waddle, you were meant to fly!”

And as the duck preacher ‘got wound up’ his parishioners began to clap their, well, wings and shout out loud and hop about, and a couple of the more expressive ducks conjured up enough wherewithal to run the aisle, and flap up to the chandelier.

Thus, as the duck preacher’s sermon reached its zenith, he reminded them again.

“Fellow ducks. Remember. You were never meant to waddle. You were meant to fly!”

And with this the duck preacher closed the good book, and sat down. After which the duck music director led the congregation in a final hymn, breathed a prayer, and dismissed the assembled masses with a final admonition.

“Fellow congregants, remember what our duck preacher told you. You were never meant to waddle. You were meant to fly. Amen and Amen.”

And without further adieu the great throng of ducks arose and

… waddled out the door.
