DANCING WITH DOC

 My great great Uncle William Henry Taylor Dowling was one of the final surviving veterans of the Civil War having fought in the final year of the war, and living to the rip old age of 99. He was one of the last National Commanders of the United Confederate Veterans organization, and the final resident of the Georgia Confederate Soldiers Home in Atlanta, Georgia.

Henry Dowling and his wife Georgia Hayes Dowling knew Doc Holliday, a dentist who, at one time, lived in Valdosta, Georgia. Georgia Dowling danced with Doc Holliday when he lived in Valdosta before he migrated west, and became well known for a different ‘vocation.’
