Dionne Warwick, a musical staple of
our time, made the song, “Do You Know the Way to San Jose” popular.
And thus, it was rather paradoxical
to my wife, and I when we easily
found our way to that northern California city of a million in our pilgrimage
to Yosemite National Park.
However…
as we bid adieu to that third
largest city in the Golden State, we apparently took a wrong turn, and realized
we had no earthly idea where we were, nor how to get where we were going.
To our left was a gigantic
reservoir. To our right was a stand of tall fir trees. And it seemed the
further we drove, the “lost-er” we got.
At this juncture I have long since
forgotten how we navigated our way out of our geographic dilemma, but my wife
and I have often reflected that, at least in terms of our own journey, the song
might just as well have been titled,
“Do You Know the Way Outta San Jose?”
