It seems the
American government keeps “going round and round” with the fat little dictator
with the girl’s name; (Kim Jong-un)
Over the
past fifteen or twenty years, several presidential administrations have offered
enticements, levied sanctions, and issued threats; all to no avail.
In spite of
occasional implications to the contrary, North Korea seems absolutely
determined to retain their nuclear weapons stockpile.
And, as I
have just implied, they will “play the game” and claim they are willing to
participate in some sort of disarmament process. This year the process has
progressed further than at any time during the 21st century. Kim
Jong-un agreed to meet with President Trump, and to begin to lay out the
preliminaries for disarmament.
Why, in the
past couple of days the North Korean regime has blown up a couple of tunnels
and buildings related to their atomic bomb program. While some would call this
a “good faith effort,” those in the know believe that the fat little dictator’s
definition of disarmament is different than our own. It would appear the young
whipper-snapper would be willing to destroy the infrastructure related to the
development of nuclear weapons, but is intent on retaining the bombs which have
already been manufactured.
(I, for one,
have often wondered why it was okay for our nation and other allied countries
to manufacture and install land-sea-air nuclear tipped missiles; whereas, we
deny the same wherewithal to regimes which we consider contrary to our own best
interests; but that is a debate for a different day).
Pt. 2
Speaking of
the Donald Trump-Kim Jong-un summit, we were notified today that the thing has
collapsed, and will not occur; at least not on its scheduled date of June 12th.
Apparently, China has been working behind the scenes to delay the summit; until
their participation in the event was guaranteed. Beyond this, the North Korean
government issued a few threats of its own yesterday, and used adjectives such
as ‘stupid’ and ‘ignorant’ to describe our vice-president.
Of course,
during the past few months our sitting president has issued threats of his own,
including turning the nation of North Korea into a flaming holocaust; the
implication that he is willing to obliterate that country with a myriad of
nuclear bombs.
I have been
more interested, than most about this topic, I think; since the entire fiasco
began. And while my credentials are limited to having served 35 years in the
military, and being a proud American citizen, I tend to believe that one
potential solution “has gone begging.” At least, it is not a remedy which has
been openly promoted, or discussed by this or any other administration, nor the
news media.
Without
resorting to specifics, suffice it to say I believe we should permanently
‘remove’ the fat little dictator, the same way he has ‘removed’ members of his
own household and wayward military officers. Immediately afterwards, his top
generals and civilian subordinates could be notified that if they even thought
about retaliation against South Korea, or the United States that they would be
next on the ‘removal list.’ Better one or two or three be ‘subtracted,’ than
untold millions of innocent human beings on both sides of the conflict.
(A possible parallel
option would be to require the fat little dictator’s generals to remove him by
mutually acceptable means, lest we ‘come after’ them).
While the
potential solution to which I refer is generally considered a non-starter, and
a virtual political anathema, our government has occasionally relied on this
countermeasure.
While all of
the foregoing is HYPOTHETICAL in nature, and must be left with the president
and congress, it seems to me if there was ever a time to consider such an
unconventional choice, I think the time is now.
