One particular American presidential candidate seems to be
captivating both the conservative and liberal press, and the adulation of a
significant minority of the American people, and an even larger minority of the
Republican electorate; at least if you believe the polls.
It is an understatement to say that I am not enamored with
this candidate. Everything about his words and demeanor repulses my
sensibilities. As I am a Republican by registration, I am a Christian by
conversion. And in my admittedly frail and sometimes faulty opinion, nothing
about this man conjures up the standard set by another notable who, in His own
day, claimed to be something, (but in His case was, and continues to be). For
though He claimed to be the very Son of the Almighty, and worthy of adoration, and
as His life ebbed towards its ignominious conclusion, He divested Himself of
His outer garments, girded Himself, became a servant and washed the feet of His
followers.
This modern day political messiah never ceases to extol His
own virtues, and demeans the lack thereof among his rivals. It seems he is
capable of anything and everything which will bring America back from oblivion,
and consistently uses terms for his military and economic strategies such as “huge”
and “great” and “outstanding,”
… (but who, in the meantime, NEVER offers any specifics).
He has rewritten the accomplishments of his nearest rival
referring to him as an “okay doctor,” though this physician has held the very
brains of men, women and children in his hands, and separated Siamese twins. He
has consistently demeaned women, referring to one interviewer’s monthly, and the resulting hormonal fluctuations, and
another female candidate’s un-admirable facial features. When in a bygone era he might have been referred to as a "male, chauvinist pig," yet now, surprisingly, his
popularity among women continues to rise. (One woman recently wore a Donald Trump dress to one of his rallies; his photo "plastered" all over it. When asked if she was disappointed with his comments about females, she said, "Well, we've all said things we later regretted.")
So much for the American electorate.
Stay tuned.
