I’m not one to complain all that much, but something
happened today which ruffled my feathers a bit.
So I walk up to the deli counter at Publix Supermarket, and
I’m the only guy in line. This employee is fixing a couple of “call-in” salads,
and tells me “I’ll be right with you.” (I’m beginning to think it’s a pat
phrase rather than a promise). At any rate, she continued to make those salads
for another three minutes, and I finally say, “I’ll come back after I shop a
bit.” (Which I did). Would you believe she was still working on those salads?
I would much rather someone tell me,
“I’m sorry, I can’t take your order until next week,”
(or)
“Perhaps one of the other employees who are working on
call-in orders can help you late this afternoon,”
(or)
“Golly. Gee whiz. Tell you what. There’s a Subway deli next
door. Why don’t you take your rear end over there. I understand they’re pretty
fast.”
(I admit. I feel kinda ashamed that I and millions of others in America are consumed with trivial matters, (such as how quickly someone can make them a sandwich) when thousands of men, woman and children are dying at the hands of groups such as ISIS in the Mideast, and millions of refugees are on the move. We truly are blessed to be citizens of this country).
