Providence.
Some call it “Luck,” some call it “Destiny,” some call it “Circumstance,”
some call it “God.”
I don’t know, but I especially like the term, “Providence.”
Providence, (and make no mistake, I mean God) has been good
to me. The course and length of my life has been remarkable.
Though my first thirty years was a testimony to Immaturity,
(with a capital “I”) I like to think the following thirty have been a testimony
to Impact; (also with a capital “I”).
So often I think of those, (with tears) who displayed SUCH
rich potential, and who in their formative years were ALREADY exercising the
attitude, and doing the things which forecast a life of potential and service,
but who, sadly,
… left us before their time.
And yet, throughout that dark and unfortunate season when
too many of my classmates succumbed to any number of circumstances, accidents
and maladies, Providence intervened on my behalf, and my life was spared
… countless times.
I cannot account for the early passing of those who
exercised such rich potential, nor of my continuance here; when I might have
followed the model which was their lives. But like the admonition of the
fictional, but very believable character in the movie, “Saving Private Ryan,”
… I hope to “earn it.”
I hope to justify Providence’ willingness to leave me here a
bit longer than so many of the rest, and in so doing to do the things they were
well on their way to doing, and
… to make them proud.
