I'll Take a Bullet for You

A couple of days ago this country experienced the greatest loss of life which can be attributed to radical Islamic terrorism since “911”. While a much larger number of innocent people were maimed and wounded in the Boston Marathon Bombing, only 3 succumbed in Boston, whereas 14 died in San Bernardino.

It is known now that the husband-wife team who perpetrated this massacre were inspired to do their deed by elements of the “Islamic State.”

And far be it from me to focus on the exploits of ISIS, but rather, the intent of this blog is to accent the heroic words and efforts of a first responder, and a civilian; each of which deserve the highest praise which can be verbalized or extolled in print.

One young lady tells the story of having sat next to a Mr. Shannon Johnson at the health department event which was so rudely disturbed by abject evil on four legs.

Shannon and the young woman hid behind a table. As they cowered there, Mr. Johnson wrapped his big left arm around his compatriot’s shoulder, and whispered,

“I got you. I got you.”

“Margie” just released a statement to the press, not only detailing her brush with death, but

… memorializing her friend, Shannon.

“He will always be my hero. He will always be such a special part of my life. I cannot thank him enough for his sacrificial act.”

Another young woman, we’ll call her “Sandra,” speaks of a policeman who appeared in the hallway of the building in which the horrendous shooting occurred. This young lady provides us with some understanding of the abject courage and commitment which resides in our nation’s first responders.

“Try to relax, everyone try to relax,” the officer told them.

“I’ll take a bullet before you do — that’s for damn sure. Just be cool, okay?”
How inestimably wonderful that for every demented madman, or terrorist on this planet who would do us harm, there are those corresponding equal, though opposite individuals who stand in the gap, and say,

"Not on my watch. Not as long as I live and move, and have anything to say about it!"
