BECOMING REAL

3978

In the last class of the final course, I completed in my master's degree program, our professor shared the closing bit of guidance she would ever share with us.
I don't remember her name at this point, but I will always remember her words from that day.
And she used a quotation from "The Velveteen Rabbit" to illustrate her point. Upon reflection I could not think of anything more fitting or poignant with which to bid her students farewell.
"Once you become real, you can never be not real again."
Her implication was all about the trials and tribulations of life, and how they can wear you down, but how that in spite of it all, God and wisdom and patience and maturity win out.
