And Suddenly, My gods Died

As I write this particular blog I am watching a re-run of a National Geographic segment relating to the recent earthquake in Nepal.

As the earthquake struck, someone, no doubt a tourist, had his or her camera rolling in the main square in Kathmandu. Suddenly, the ancient Buddhist Temple there shudders, and collapses into ruins.

Shortly after the collapse of the temple an American journalist stops a man in the street, and in commendable, but morose English he muses,

“Our gods live in the temple. No temple. No gods. I just watched my gods die.”

How inestimably sad that anyone, anywhere has been indoctrinated in such theological bunk from a child.

I’m glad I serve a God, (singular and with a big “G”) who doesn’t depend on a man-made building in which to reside, survive and thrive.

The holy scripture instructs and encourages us that,

The Most High does not dwell in houses made by human hands. As the prophet says,

'HEAVEN IS MY THRONE, AND EARTH IS THE FOOTSTOOL OF MY FEET; WHAT KIND OF HOUSE WILL YOU BUILD FOR ME?' says the Lord, 'OR WHAT PLACE IS THERE FOR MY REPOSE?…’
(Acts 7:48-49)

I’m glad I serve a God who is big enough to fill up the entire universe, but small enough to live within my heart.
