Been There. Bought the T-Shirt

Our current Republican presidential candidates, Donald Trump and Jeb Bush, have been “going at it” about ever so many relevant topics, not the least of which is the threat in the Mideast posed by the “Islamic State in Iraq and Syria” (ISIS).

And though I generally think of Donald Trump as a bragadocious blowhard and a nut job, I like his response to a recent statement by Jeb, the younger brother, and son of two of our former presidents.

Gov. Bush made the statement that, (paraphrased) “We need to return to Iraq and take care of this new threat. They want us there. They need us there. We need to show some skin on the ground.”

To which “The Donald” responded, “Show some skin on the ground? I don’t know if there is an Iraq, and I don’t think you can call that a government. Their so-called army runs away when a few ISIS troops approach, and to top it all off, they leave their vehicles and weapons behind. Show our presence there? As if we hadn’t already experienced thousands of wounded, and lost multiplied thousands of our troops in that God-forsaken place. Go back? Not on your life! Not on my watch!”

As a retired military man, with 35 years service in the Air Force and Army National Guard, as I have already implied I believe we have served our time in Iraq, and spilt enough blood to dye the oceans of the world red.

From my humble perspective it seems to me that the nations with the most at stake, countries like Saudi Arabia and Jordan, (and obviously, Iraq) should immediately create a massive Arab army, and march against that malignant hoard which has troubled the region, and literally obliterate the cowards which have beheaded Christians, raped women, and stolen the virtue of little girls in the name of what they call “marriage.” Thus far, America is handling the bulk of the air war against these beasts, and the countries of that region are contributing just enough air power to make a pretense of being engaged in the battle.

Skin on the ground? Americans can rightly respond with,

“Been there. Bought the T-Shirt.

… And we ain’t going back!”
