As I write
these lines our congress is considering whether to approve the recent Nuclear
Arms Treaty with Iran. While it is expected to be approved, there is always the
possibility that, with enough backing from the Jewish and Republican lobby it
will not.
Several
things about this treaty disturb me.
The AEA will
have to give Iran notice before inspecting a nuclear facility. In the meantime
Iran could go about moving incriminating evidence prior to their arrival. As I
understand it, military facilities will not be subject to inspection. (That’s a
“no brainer.”) And the agreement, contrary to Secretary Kerry’s
characterization of it, does have an expiration date of 10-15 years. Next but
not least, Iran has never lived up to the agreements they have made in the
past. And the absolutely worst variable of all, Iran hates Israel and has
promised to destroy it. They have never backed down from this promise.
We should
have learned something from the failure of the Nuclear Arms Agreement with North
Korea. They promised. They lied. They developed nuclear weapons.
A.A.’s
definition of “crazy” is: Doing the same things you’ve always done, (which
never worked,) but expecting different results.
